You can't retract moves without watching a video. Also, at this point in the game it won't let me retract moves at all. It's hard to learn the game when I'm forced to let things play out even if i notice the mistake before the computer moves. Awesome game, horrible app.
Good app to learn the basics of the game. The A.I isnt very smart, even on higher difficulties. But for anyone wanting to learn the game and the very simple rules. This app is perfect.
Best Shogi app I was able to find that is both in English (admittedly poorly translated) and uses Japanese Kanji.
It's a really good app for beginners I myself have never played shogi or japanese chess and I feal like if your an experienced player or never played shogi before I would recommend it also I'd recommend it to the chess players out there
Amazing app to play shogi for beginners and others. You can play online with other players and the controls and setting are very intuitive compared to every other app i tried. The only problem is that it is hard to understand the basic rules since its not written with proper English, i would suggest that you learn the basics from the internet before playing on this app
With a decent basic tutorial, option to see where each piece can move to, & level options, this is a good app. You can also change your avatar, name, play a Challenge & you have Fortune Slips every 8 hours. I like the board options too. Eventually I'll go online but for now, learning the pieces on a beginning level is perfect. It is free & you can double a coin by watching an ad. You don't have to have hints when you take your time to learn, plus you can watch an ad to take back a move.
Poor translations. Not very intuitive UI. Obtrusive ads. I opted out of reviewing the game, so it cancelled me out of the game completely. Now I'm reviewing it 1 star instead.
Main game in my phone for years now 10/10. Literally the only thing that bothers me is the ads on the bottom of my shogi board, id rather watch an ad than having that distracting me
Haven't played shogi before just chess and was curious how to play. Has an option to see how the tiles move so appreciate the chance to learn.
I love chess but since im an anime fan i wanted to play shogi from naruto. Awsome chess game. I jus need to figure out what the pieces name are and wat they do 1st time shogi player
English version translation needs work. Can only play 3 pvp games per day unless you pay. On the good side, tsumi shogi is really good. Overall a good learning tool, for beginners.
Good fun. The AI is good for a beginner to intermediate. I like the music and aesthetic. Try their Tsume Shogi app also; highly recommend it!
I'm new to shogi, but it looks like the developers actually listen to feedback and the game it self is fun
This is a great game. I have my own set and only played it twice in two years because I can't find anyone to play. So this is very satisfying. Thanks.
Very good app always loved the game and feels aliitle like playing on a real board with how you interact with the pieces. The music and atmosphere of the game is good. AI is a decent challenge for average players probably not as good as a professional Shogi player. Still all round good balanced game
Fun game, but the ads that are allowed are too aggressive! Clicking on the 'x', after watching an interesting ad, takes you to the Play Store instead of closing the advertisement. No, thanks. This is the app's responsibility.
Great game and active online getting you into games within seconds. Also very helpful staff when I ran into issues, got it all sorted out in a day when I emailed them and were awesome at compensating me for my trouble. I would rate it a 10 out of 5 if I could.
Very good experience overall, though the English translation is not perfect. It's usable/understandable without issue ime.
Enjoyable. I like the problems. Only downside is the English isn't great. I recommend wikipedia or another resource to fully understand the rules of shogi if you are a beginner. Some people might find the ads annoying but it doesn't bother me as I appreciate the necessity of ads to provide the app for free.
Very fun. The English is definitely understandable, but sometimes quite funny and not always grammatically correct. To give an example, when you start a game, the button to do so says "Playing!".
Very bad advertisement in game. I would pay for an option that could let me redo steps without having to watch a distracting video that gets me out of the game every single time. Very bad experience. Better just play the shogi game on the switch clubhouse 51 games
Fun and interesting. Ive always liked chess, but now it has become kind of boring but this is a nice new experence that is still similar
I like how im able to just practice and practice, how it doesn't require internet connection to play. I'm also glad with the levels and other settings--it allows me actually learn on the fly. I like it, and as person who just started an interest in Shogi, thank you so much!
It is your regular shogi game, you can learn the game, reset as many times as you like and learn strategies to be better at the game. Very simple and easy.
The descriptions can be hard to understand and learning how to play shogi only from the app is difficult
Great game, super fun and addictive,i had never played a game before but after playing I felt like wanting to buy one
I have always liked playing chess, but I never thought I would enjoy Shogi as much. This app proved me wrong.
Interesting learning experience I can't read japanese but I can kinda figure out the moves and some similarities to chess although this seems more complicated
Grrat game, and i like the practice your checkmatr mode. Also the ability to review your game afterwards is nice
I've always wanted to know how to play shogi I watch naruto and boruto next generation and shikumaro always plays shogi and at first I did understand the game shogi but now its starting to make sense and American chess is boring but this game shogi is awesome and I'm thinking about making my own homemade shogi to play with my family keep developing games like this and I'll keep playing them love this game if you want someone to test out any of your new games please let me know.
It's been ages since I wrote a game review (and god knows how many games I play) but I decided to write one here out of frustration =_= don't get me wrong, I love Shogi and this game is really good for daily practice. The problem resides in online matches.. I've never won a game since I started playing, y? Because everytime I play, the game just needs to get disconnected (ma connection is pretty good) and they mark me as if I've withdrawn even when I'm obviously having the upper hand ^^
I like it so far. Very calm and observing and I really like the music, because its helps you focus more and forget about the bad things in life.
Everything in the app is excellent, but for some reason, the CPU opponent in practice mode takes too long to make a move (like 5-10 min). Uninstalling for now. Hopefully, an update will help make it as quick as it was before.
Very interesting and user-friendly. I would hope that they continue updating and adding new features. Also Shogi is a great game, I encourage an advertising campaign to bring in more players from across the world, people are missing out..
Liked too much but theme could be more batter and more option could be available. I kidney request make a good theme this theme is boring
I downloaded this app to learn and start practicing shogi and didn't regret it. It gives you the basic information you need to start and it has an online and a practice mode. It seems like it was developed in another language (possibly Japanese), because the English translation isn't perfect, but it can be understood.
Nice Shogi experience. Gameplay is smooth, ads are small and hardly noticable. Tutorial mode, which highlights the possible movements is helpful to a new learner such as myself. My only complaint is that the computer-player's movements happen in a blink. It can be difficult sometimes to see what move your opponent made. However, this can be solved with vigilience, something I'm still learning. Very fun! Enjoying the app a lot!!
A good game overall. Easy to understand and quite challenging, there's online ranking system, so you can meet someone with the same level. Although if I must say can you please change hint/help from using gold coin to silver coin? Or at least change it to only 1 gold coin? Thank you!
The best Shogi app on android I have come across. You can have a local game, easily play a friend over the net, and it has checkmate in 1, 3 and 5 moves puzzle section that is great for practicing your end game and it is also good for training to think like a shogi player and drop tactics that work in chess but are irrelevant in shogi.
The reason, why I deleted it, was, it had almost 1 GB on my phone and my remaining memory was running low. The English used is very poor, hardly understandable, but well, you'll figure out what was meant, even if the actual meaning is off. Actually, (the free version of) the app isn't too bad. Annoying advertising and limited number of matches against human opponents (3 per day) apart. In games against humans there is no chess clock. You just have a fixed time (I think 15 s) for each move. The AI is on level 10 of 18 way better than me, so I just can't judge it.
The game ui is slow and the game bugs out sometimes. I was midgame and the game stopped working suddenly and closed on its own. I had to play again from the beginning and that match from before was gone. Thus, lost a good match by no fault of my own. Also, it's good that the app is translated in English language but the quality of translation sucks. You can't understand the rules at all unless u try really really hard or have played regular chess before. Fix these and the game would be great.
I love a good game of shogi after doing some work because even tho it makes my brain work I feel relaxed and can take a break.
The app is great for first time players however I couldn't find an option that allows me to mute the in game music which means I couldn't listen to my own music in the background, but thats my only complaint
I wish they made a chess game, it would've been the best game ever using this game mechanics and QoL settings introduced here.
I love it so much! Its really enjoyable ☺️ It's also a good way to boost ur mood so I say click the install button immediately! (✯ᴗ✯)
I use this game to tell me what moves to make in the Yakuza mini-game. It's never lost a match. It's exactly what you'd expect from a free Shogi app. There's lots of weird gimmicks and flashy imagery to keep you playing, but the core of the app is a solid Shogi computer with some ads you gotta go through to keep the thing running. UI is a little too flashy, but I guess you have to stand out somehow.
The game is wonderful, its my first time playing shogi and through the beginner's settings, I understood the rules of the game very fast and enjoyed playing it.
This is the best game I've ever downloaded. The amount thinking I have to put into this is so much fun. Plus all the different difficulties and puzzles you can do. I love that it has the ability to play online so I can play with my friends over seas. 10/10 would absolutely recommend this game to any shogi or chess players!
Bad translation that left me more confused. The ads every few steps I take in practice mode really kills the mood to play too.
I love this game! It helps you to learn how to play it through the tutorial! So much fun, and I prefer it to chess.
I don't know many other shogi apps being from the states but this app has always just been good fun. Wish online didn't need an item but at least you 3 every day
I enjoy this app but when I switch to level 1 sometimes some of the pieces won't move at all and that causes me a disadvantage.
A nice, accessible take at Shogi with multiple difficulty levels and the option of westernised pieces to help beginners to adjust. A lot of thought has been put into this and it doesn't drown you in adverts (which is especially good for saying it's free). If you're at all interested in Shogi, do yourself a favour and try it. You won't regret it. 👍
After playing, now I know why it has so much positive rating. Because it is Awesome. Even if you don't know anything about Shogi you can learn from scratch, practice and play with others. Though translation can be standardized by some words I like it as it is now. Best. Gotta try it.
Cool game but for some reason, sometimes and I didn t play a lot, if I make certain moves the computer AI makes a pattern of going forward and backward sometimes non stop till something comes up to the computer or me killing a piece. Cool game!
This is one of the best shogi apps I've ever used. Dr. Shogi is the only one that could compete when it comes to online integration. However, the English translation is hilariously broken! Check became "stuff" and turn became "hand," for example. In practice, when I'm using an actual shogi set, instead of just saying "hit" when I drop a piece, I announce "I drop a(n) [insert piece name]," as it's similar to how you pronounce turn actions in a TCG.
It's amazing and runs very smooth, the noises are satisfying. The only thing that is a little difficult is learning to play but even that they have great settings to help beginners learn
The english used to explain the basic rule is literally terrible. I'm a total beginner and this is the very first time I try to learn shogi, so it totally confuse me af. I thought maybe it's my dumb brain's fault, but then I found that some other reviews here are pointing out the english too. It would be really great if that gonna be improved soon so this app will actually be noob-friendly as well.
I love this app its very useful and beautiful, It's help me to enjoy the game and I i don't even know the rules. I just know this game while watching an anime serie that called "mars comes like a lion"
As a beginner, the fact that I can switch between kanji and Latin characters is great, along with being able to display the valid moves is wonderful
Great, I'm getting better and better I still don't know which is easier this or american chess, I think this is harder to learn but easier to win. I hope to learn more types of chess
A fun substitute for chess, and a good way to learn how to play Shogi. I learn how the Japanese Kanji 金 and 銀, and will probably learn more the more I play and pay attention.
Shogi is pretty hard to learn and even harder to get decent at.Its alot different than Go for sure. i still dont know the characters well but im learning. ill keep trying though so that one of these days ill be able to play against a human for once. as for the app itself, besides the abundance of ads, its pretty good. straightforward and includes online , practice, and vs..along with problem solving.
GUI is nice, too bad It's too P2w and it doesn't use realtime timer so you'll lose if you're minimise the app. disappointed
Easy to learn as a beginner. Settings enable to change kanji characters to English, which is very convenient. Graphics is decent and bgm is soothing. I recommend this game to anyone who's starting to get into shogi.
Amazing game exactly what you look for in a shogi game with nice tutorials and puzzles, i wish they had customization that's all
Its a fun interactive game shogi learners because it shows. And mostly because i watch anime and want to learn this game and its fun to play in your free time
Should have won earlier when the opponent king only had 1 move back n forth, did it about 25 times. 4 times and it's a loss. Ask me to review mid game, then hit me with an ad upon return. Yeah 1 star.
Absolutely love this game ! If you were to bring this game to PC for Windows or on steam i would gladly pay for it ! (One time payment)
In my opinion, this is the best shogi game for mobile. I like the simplicity of the visual design. I think the only issue here is the translation. There are some sentences that does'nt make sense. I don't see any more issues other than that so good job for the developers.
In addition to clunky UI and constant 30+ second ads, the game has a hard limit on takebacks per *day*, so if you accidentally click the wrong square, you may as well resign.
I love 💓 shogi. And I like the user interface of this game too... It's more user friendly 🤠 and daily certain amount of games only... So, I can concentrate on others things and part of my life as well...
the game is good for offline, but having to watch ad for undo move is a bit too much. translation is also janky. i just hope save feature gets implemented.
No over the board function for local 2 player. Add blocks bottom buttons so app is difficult to close.
I rather enjoy the app but the AI has this weird habit of stalling on some levels. Just moves one piece side to side for turns. Drvies me nuts especially if I am in a castle and just move G.Generals around or something because he moves his king back and forth.
The only negative thing I have to say about this app is that the English is hard to understand or unintelligible in some places. Otherwise it's an excellent app for beginners who want to learn shogi (like me). The app is high quality and easy to use. More apps should be made with this level of care/quality. Thank you for your work
Amazing Really accurate, although would not recommend it to anyone who does not like strategy or thinking hard.
I really enjoyed playing shogi its really good although its my first time playing it but i kinda feel like i been playing a year now but i like it so i give it 5
It's a nice game. If you haven't played and wanna play shogi this is nice choice. To creators, it world be nice if we could play online a lit More
Downloaded to learn how to play shogi easier to learn than i thought and the tutoriel was easy to follow if you know how to play chess
Awesome so far, I haven't used any other shogi apps but I've used a lot of chess apps and they tend to make my phone explode and this seems way more complex and it runs fine so I'm giving it five stars 😁
Its like chess I think it would help if I could read the Japanese still very interesting and different then chess
The only problem is that sometimes you would lose with no warning at all due to checkmate (or whatever its called) by the enemy, tho this situation doesn't prolong now that i got better at the game :)
Have been playing a match daily and really enjoy the gameplay. Slowly progressing levels to see where I cap out at the current moment and each level has it's own unique mechanics the ai introduces. The learning curve is implemented well. thank you for this app.
I really like this game! A friend recommended it to me so I installed, and now I even prefer shogi to regular chess! The graphics are nice too and the game is nearly ad free. The online game isn't ideal, but personally I play offline most of the time. The only thing I'd want to improve is that there's no way to save the game to resume playing.
I got the game because I had never played shogi in my life. The stages and daily challenges help get my brain pumping and thoughts flowing. Second to thinking, a customizable character is another thing I greatly enjoy. The options are a bit limited at first, but you can gain gold through dailies and the fortunes. While I have yet to reap enough for a hairstyle I greatly enjoy, the pace makes it feels personal. The only problem I have with the game is a couple times, the ads covered all the game.
I really love this game but the app always hang halfway through my games. An update to fix the bugs would be great
I think a really good update would be if we get the names of the pieces in english not just in chinese ex. on the rook we can also have " rook " as text in english on the piece not only in chinese
Would be great if the app could keep a record of the last few games you played, just in case you forget to save the game records.
It's a good simulation of shogi if you're fine with just playing boys wish there where different types of pieces
This app is really fun. Shogi is more difficult than checkers. The more I play the more I get better. The only con for me was that I tried online multiplayer but it couldn't find an opponent. I would definitely recommend to someone who was interested in giving this game a try but didn't know how to play and wanted to get better before actually playing against someone.
This app really helped me learn the game. I wish there were strategy lessons for things like climbing silver
Wish they had an opition so we could read the pieces and not have to remember them, otherwise great!!!!!
More ads than I care to see and not a great english translation. Games operate smoothly and app allows for online and offline play.
This is a very fun game! This is basically chess but with more interesting features. I had fun playing this game while also having difficulties getting used to the pieces but its still worth the time.. I love the fact that you can place down the enemy's pieces as your own piece now after getting their piece. Overall such a satisfying game👌
I don't understand how people had any problem with understanding how to play, because of the translation, I hadn't even noticed. As long as you get the gist of it is all that really matters I understand if they can't hire people it's a japanese game that's not that big, even in Japan.
Well, colour me impressed as I am fairly new at this. Still, it is a good way to familiarize with the whole deal.
Really fun kinda hard to see the pieces, but I'm happy to finally be learning, the sound design is really satisfying each piece lands with a nice click, the music is pretty, and it's got handy features for new players definitely worth the download also features online play
Everything is good about this game but not at all conviced with the online matches we can play, only 3 times and wait for 12 hours after that again only 3 more matches. It literally says shogi free but we have to get premium in order to play continously. And also i get it that if it would be unlimit matches everytime the multiplayer servers may crash, so in order for that could you atleast have 3 hours for 3 matches? I hope this idea may work for you cause i am okay and certainly some maybe too.
Lots of tsume options and practice games. Great app. You must already know the basics of Shogi such as knowing the kanji for the pieces and how the pieces move.
Although I was slightly tempted to mark the app down a star, for the amusingly bad English translations, I decided against that, as it has given me just what I wanted. That is, being able to start at an absolute beginner level and then slowly move up levels, as my confidence and understanding improves.
I love this game. in Canadian and got into this from the anime "march comes in like a lion" this app is easy to use and is pretty good for learning
Too many 30 sec ads. I only play the puzzle, so I don't want a subscription. I would pay a one time fee to be rid of the ads, but that not an option yet. But the puzzles are really fun, and the appearance is very nice.
Good game but the game keeps stopping and I am redirected to home screen , while I am playing the game suddenly stops Other than that great game
Taught me how to play Shogi! I am going to Japan in a few months, and I am excited to play against some pros!
It is a good game for learning but if you can change the avatar clothing price i will definitely rate five star
it's fun and enjoyable. you can practice and develop your skills too. not as complex but hard to make a strategy (in my experience) the only thing is bothering me is that I need to pay for playing multiple rounds on online. I want to but at the same time I don't want?? 🤷‍♀️ It would be nice for none members to play it to 5x at least
I have not played much but it is working fine for me so far. Its a good eay to learn to play shogi for free.
edit the 4* review I like the game but why am I (20kyu) being matched up with 13 or above this is unfair in online matches punyeta
